Why is my FormBox making a strange sound?

There are a few reasons you might be hearing unexpected noises:

  • Active fans. You might be hearing the two fans in the top of the FormBox, or the fan in the bottom of the machine. These switch on as soon as you connect your FormBox to power, to keep everything nice and cool.
  • Warning alarms. There are also two warning alarms that sound when your FormBox has been left unattended. The first one will sound after 10 minutes to remind you that your FormBox is still switched on. The second one will sound after 15 minutes, and will completely shut down the machine as a safety precaution. You can reactivate the machine simply by turning the temperature dial to "OFF", and then back to any temperature.
  • Alarms. The alarm will also sound constantly if there is an issue with your machine. You will not be able to use your machine when this alarm is signalling. But don’t worry - you can diagnose the issue by looking at the lights on the front of your machine.

If the problem is due to one of these issues, please contact support@mayku.me.

Check if one or both upper FormBox fans are working

You will hear a beeping sound if one or both fans are not working.

To check that both your upper fans are working, switch the machine on, turn the heater dial to any temperature, and place your hand over the vents in the top. If you feel air coming out, fans are working. If no air is coming out, there is an issue.

Faulty upper FormBox fans

Please refer to our article "How do I check my cooling fans for fault?".

Check if the lower FormBox Fan is connected:

  1. Undo the two small hex screws on either side of the hole under the mesh
  2. Turn the machine over on its side and remove the rubber feet from the base
  3. Undo the hex screws under the feet
  4. Carefully take off the bottom case and check the lower fan connection

Vacuum switches on prematurely when lowering the top tray

The issue is caused by an overly sensitive switch. To fix it, lift both trays up and rotate the grey button that activates the vacuum clockwise. This should cause the spring inside the machine to drop slightly, making it less tight.

My FormBox is still making a sound after turning it OFF

When the dial is in the OFF position, the fans on the top part remain on for 10 minutes to cool the heater down. Let the fans cool the heater down for 10 minutes, before turning it off at the mains.

How long can I use the FormBox in one session?

We recommend using the FormBox in 45-minute sessions, followed by a 20-minute cooling period with the temperature dial switch to OFF.

Turning the timer sound OFF

Is the sound of the timer interrupting your creative process? No problem. You can easily turn the sound off by holding the timer button down for 8 seconds. It’s located on the left-hand side of the front panel of your FormBox.

What vacuum should I use?

We designed an adapter that allows the FormBox to be used with any vacuum cleaner that has a power rating of up to 2000 watts.

We recommend using a vacuum cleaner that comes with a mechanical switch over an electric switch and a wired vacuum cleaner rather than a cordless one, as the FormBox can power it for you.

It's best to use a vacuum cleaner that sits on the floor with a longer hose, rather than an upright one, if the space allows it. Additionally, the vacuum cleaner should not have a 'valve' or power control system for stepping the power down if the hose is covered.

Can I use a wireless vacuum cleaner?

You can use your wireless vacuum cleaner with the Mayku FormBox. However, you will need to turn it on manually.

Connect the hose to the back of the FormBox, then start heating the sheet. When almost ready, switch the vacuum on manually, bring the tray down, wait 10 seconds and then switch off the vacuum cleaner.

One of the connectors is missing

Sometimes the small connector that fits into the FormBox gets stuck in the larger connector. If it looks like the image below, it's an easy fix to pull it out.

What happens if I leave the FormBox unattended?

If the FormBox is left unattended, an alarm will sound after 10 minutes of inactivity. A second alarm will sound after 15 minutes, after which the machine will shut down automatically.
